Extra Extra! Read All About It!

As I mentioned earlier, our little Oompa Loompas were quite popular while they trick-or-treated on Pumpkin Alley the other night. The local newspaper interviewed us and they were featured in this write up yesterday. They didn't include a picture of the boys, but just imagine these little nuggets running around while you read the article:

Sixteen-month-old triplets Will, Griffin and Cooper Mason were the hit of Pumpkin Alley on Halloween night as they toddled down the street in their brown and white Oompa Loompa costumes, their shoe pompoms bouncing with every step and completely unaware of their popularity with the crowd.
After walking a bit, they climbed into their red Radio Flyer wagon that their father Will Mason, who was dressed as Willie Wonka, pulled while their mother Meaghan Mason walked beside them dressed as Violet Beauregard – all characters from the movie “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
They traveled from Gallatin, Tenn., to Will Mason’s sister’s home in Bowling Green to trick or treat along Single Tree Way, near Mooreland Drive, which is also known as Pumpkin Alley for one night of the year.
A short span of the street was blocked off from vehicular traffic to welcome the thousands of children and parents who showed up to walk door to door to collect candy and other goodies.
“The closed streets make it a safe environment,” Will Mason said.
“We love it,” Meaghan Mason said. “This is what we dreamed about when we were having kids.”
The Mason family trick or treated last year with the triplets dressed as ducklings. But this year the children were able to walk for a little while. Meaghan Mason came up with the idea for the family costumes months ago. She was dressed as the giant Violet after the girl turned into a oversized blueberry from consuming a piece of Willy Wonka’s bubble gum that wasn’t quite perfected.
“The neighborhood is very well dressed up and decorated,” Will Mason said as he stood near a house that created a small haunted house in the front yard.
Other homes had windows with gigantic cat eyes peeping out, and one home had scary mannequins in the yard.
Brion Holland sat on the front porch of his home with his mother, Minnie Holland, to hand out suckers and bubble gum. Brion and his wife, Lisa Holland, bought more than 2,000 pieces of candy and gum to hand out. At only about 90 minutes into a three-hour time frame designated for trick or treat, he was wondering aloud if he would run out of treats. They had already gone through almost one huge bag of Dum-Dums suckers.
Holland believed the unseasonably warm, dry night brought out more people than usual.
Devonia Nealy brought her grandchildren, Jocelyn, 9, and Jadyen London, 11, to Pumpkin Alley to trick or treat and see the Halloween decorations. This was their first time to trick or treat in the neighborhood around Single Tree Way. Jocelyn was dressed as the mythical goddess Venus, and Jadyen was a zebra. Both children had already gotten their favorite candy bars early before 5 p.m.
Olivia Jefferson, 10, was dressed as a mythical goddess and enjoyed looking at the spooky outdoor decor.
“It’s cool to see other people’s decorations,” Olivia said.
Stephen Grossl and his wife, Melinda, brought out their 4-year-old daughter Haylee and their 7-week-old Reagan. Haylee liked looking at everyone else’s costumes and was hoping to get some bubble gum in her treat bag.
“I like the atmosphere of everyone out and about,” Melinda Grossl said. She appreciated the safety of the blocked-off streets.
Stephen Grossl said seeing the houses decorated and all of the adults out reminded him of Halloweens in the past when he was a child growing up in Georgetown.
“This is how I remember trick-or-treating,” he said.
